Woven Futures: The Fabric of Restorative Design

📅 9/13/2024

⏰ 3:00 PM - 3:45 PM

📍 Palmer Events Center: Main Hall 2

This presentation examines the historical and current impacts of design, particularly how it often adversely affects individuals from marginalized identities. Given the rise of global economies and demographic shifts within the United States, the need for equitable design solutions has become critical. The concept of restorative design is introduced as a framework for engaging, researching, and designing for marginalized audiences in a way that avoids further marginalization.

Through this perspective, we will explore how designers can achieve more equitable outcomes. Attendees will be provided with concrete examples to help them self-evaluate their work and identify steps to improve future projects. This session aims to equip designers with the skills and insights necessary to create more inclusive and impactful designs, fostering a more equitable environment for everyone.
